Dr Hari Narayanan is the Managing Director for Motorola Solutions Malaysia Sdn Bhd. He was appointed to his current position on the 1st of July, 2014 and will assume overall responsibility for the company’s operations at its Penang site that includes supply chain, R&D and Global Solutions & Services Center. Dr Hari has over 23 years of experience with Motorola and has held various key leadership positions within the company during his tenure. Prior to his current appointment, Dr Hari Narayanan was responsible for leading the Motorola Solutions R&D organization in Malaysia. Under his stewardship, Dr Hari led various teams to deliver numerous innovative products for different portfolios for worldwide customers, from platform based to fast derivatives. He has been a change agent, leading numerous initiatives for continuous productivity/efficiency improvements resulting in yearly staff effort savings as well as cycle-time improvements. He is passionate about transforming the organization through its people and has since initiated a number of programs for leadership behavioral changes across the management team. Recently, under Dr Hari’s sponsorship, the R&D team had intensified its efforts on innovation, delivering a number of innovative solutions as well IP’s. Before helming leadership of the R&D organization, Dr Hari took on various positions within R&D. He was instrumental in setting up the Advanced Technology Group, the Program Management Office, as well as Product Quality Group. Dr Hari graduated with a 1st Class Honors in Mechanical Engineering from the Manchester Metropolitan University, UK in 1982. He obtained his PhD from the University of Manchester (UMIST) in 1985. He worked as an apprentice in GEC Traction Ltd, Manchester as part of his basic degree. Upon completing his PhD, he joined the University of Manchester (UMIST) as a full-time Staff in 1986. He left the academia in UK and joined Motorola Malaysia in 1992. A chartered engineer (CEng) by profession, Dr Hari holds several positions within the engineering institutions. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE), Member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (MIET) and Management Institute of Malaysia (MIM), as well as a Science Advisory Board Associate (SABA) in Motorola Solutions. He is also one of the Board members of CREST. Dr Hari is also the recipient of the Public Bank-MIM Senior Manager of the Year Award in 2007 for practicing exemplary management and leadership and contributing significantly to his organisation and industry.
