Industrial Forum: Career Prospects in Manufacturing Engineering

On 20th Dec 2016, UTeM-Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC)  is organising Industrial Forum on the topic of Career Prospects in Manufacturing Engineering, in conjunction to Innovative Research and Industrial Dialogue 2016, in UTeM main campus.

Mr. Lee Cheong Chee, President and Managing Director of Infineon Technologies (M) Sdn. Bhd was invited as one of the panels for the forum together with another two panels, Tuan Haji Mohamad Zamri Md. Zin, Manager of Manufacturing Planing of PROTON Sdn. Bhd. and Mr. Amirul Herman Razali, Head of Department of Manufacturing Engineering of CTRM Sdn. Bhd., and moderated by Prof. Ir. Sivarao a/l Subramonian.

Prior to the forum, the VIPs were led to the poster exhibition booth which showcased the research which have been done in UTeM related to manufacturing technologies. Totally there were 101 projects with which the posters were being displayed. During the forum, Mr. Lee shared that Infineon is working on Industrial 4.0 smart factory which would eliminating human error, but may also rise the worry of cutting down the job for people, however Mr. Lee emphasized that one of the automation challenges is the return of investment, therefore human workforce is still important and the role of engineer are important especially in optimizing the industrial process example applying Six Sigma process".

At the end of the session, a few questions were raised by the audiences, one of which related to the prospects of postgraduate students. The panels were optimistic regarding the opportunities for graduate with advanced  academic achievement and advise students to work hard and continuously keep updated with new technologies. The audiences were benefited with the knowledge and information shared by the experienced industrial panels. 

The forum ended by the presentation of token to the panels of the forum by Prof. Dr. Radzali Bin Othman, the manager of Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMC), UTeM.
